Customizing Neovim Updated

TLDR

This is a long ass guide. so to cut to the chase, you can find the entire config can be found in my dotfiles repo i.e. DoomDots

So the oldest blog in this site I ever wrote is about configuring neovim / vim using the old vim scipt method but for the last few years I have been using Lua for the config and stuff where I did configure a minimal config but some issues with my understanding of how the configuration actually took place and other shit like that, than I tried LazyVim which is basically a “disto” for neovim like everthing preconfigured and stuff like that with minimal configurations and customizations as per liking.

OpenSOC: Wazuh Agent Setup for Linux Endpoints

So here we are, we gonna setup the agents for our SIEM and configure everything related to it so that you can set up multiple agents using similar methods.

This might get a little long so there are Table of content in every post now which you can use to navigate and get things done rather than sit around and read this entire blog.

why do we need to do this in the first place?

Every SIEM needs some kind of telemetry collector. This is where this “Agent” comes in. It basically takes the shit load of logs from your device and streams them to the server where it gets dumpped and no one actually analyses most of it.

TL;DR: I do use AI. Mostly LLM for log analysis and repetitive task, I don’t do “vibe-coding” much but I have tried it. I won’t act like I hate it, I rather keep it as a tool it is great in that way but I dont recommend spamming it in every situation.

So I have one thing to disclose to everyone that is here, Yes, I do use LLMs and other coding assistants and security tools that work with AI(LLMs). Yeah bummer right? If yes you can leave this site but if not then fine continue.

OpenSOC: Setting up the SIEM (Wazuh Server)

For the first part of the series, we are going to setup wazuh server. Wazuh is an open source SIEM that can be used to detect, manage and respond to security incidents. It is basically a glorified log analysis tool. There are other SIEMs like Cisco Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Google Chronicle, IBM Qradar and more.

But for our opensoc project I picked wazuh due to two reason

It is free so most of you can follow along without needing to get a license or some kind of lobotomized trial where you need to add your credit card info or something like that.
It is dead easy to setup and get going so it is more privacy friendly than the other options we have.

So enough, BS. You can do your research if you want to know more or you can just fuck off.

OpenSOC: Building an Open Source SOC Lab That Does Not Suck

OpenSOC is my SOC lab. This series is me documenting how I built it and why I made certain decisions, mostly so I don’t forget when something breaks six months from now.

I’ve been doing SOC/NOC work, messing with SIEMs, Meraki firewall and MDM, endpoint monitoring and pentesting for about a year now. And the one thing that pisses me off about security work is that there’s no clean paper trail. With software you have commits, PRs, test results, you can see progress. Security work just explodes into a hundred different places. alerts here, firewall rules there, some dashboard you screenshotted at idk when everything was burning down, investigation notes in a random text file, RCA nobody reads. Its a fucking mess and that knowledge just evaporates.

Why use vim and neovim over other text editors and IDEs?

For me, I’ve always loved minimalism and performance over ease of use and other flashy bloat no one really uses and cares about. This why I personally use Terminal-based text editors. Preferably VIM or Neovim. Tho I currently, am running Neovim, but both of them are basically the same. NeoVIM is a little bit more extensible than VIM and easy to manage imo. But enough talking, lets start configuring our VIM/NVIM to make it more like an actual developing environment.
